Hans Van Sumeren — director of the Great Lakes Water Studies Institute at Northwestern Michigan College — will give a brief presentation to all Frankfort High School science students. He will discuss how his program helps students to achieve a fun and rewarding career in the growing water field!
This presentation is being facilitated as part of the 9th annual Benzie County Water Festivall (most events taking place February 10-17, 2019), organized each year by the Benzie Community Water Council (BCWC).
For the fifth year in a row, BCWC plans to offer a scholarship for a Benzie County student to attend the Water Studies Institute, which we believe to be a world-class resource, right in our own backyard! We give this scholarship because: what better way to promote environmental stewardship and water appreciation than to make the education of our local youth for a career in these fields more accessible and attainable?
We hope that this presentation will inspire FHS students to apply for the scholarship this year and many years into the future!
We will also have James Robinson, a BCHS alum who has recently graduated from the Water Studies Institute on-hand at the presentation; Jamie has been a three-time recipient of BCWC’s scholarship!
